AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” II Corinthians 12:9
By God's grace, we made it through this day. My eyes are heavy, my feet are sore, but my heart is full. I woke up this morning feeling some trepidation for what lay ahead. Am I able to handle the visitation? Will I just break down altogether? Although we have been in ministry for years and have been to many visitations in the past, I wasn’t sure what to expect at this one. This time, I was on the other end of the receiving line.
We were blown away by the outpouring of love, concern, and support for our family. The line up of loved ones was endless. One hug after the other — and each one would continue to strengthen me a little more. We had no idea how Mom's life had impacted so many people. We are truly thankful to each and every one who made an effort to be with us today.
My parents have been in ministry for 38 years, and I have been a part of that ministry for many of those years. It is very easy to question at times whether we are making a difference in the lives of others. Ministry can be a lonely place. But, today, we did not feel lonely. We felt so loved, accepted, and cared for. Although the pain is fresh and raw, the strength and love of community displayed today was just the balm that I needed for my hurting heart.
Mom was such a strong woman. Before I went into that funeral home, I prayed that the Lord would give me even half of her strength. And He did…by His grace. His grace is sufficient. When we are at our weakest, God’s strength is made perfect through us. This gives me great hope. I struggled with fear and timidity for many, many years. It was a tough battle, at times, for me to overcome. So, needless to say, I have been a prime candidate for the Lord’s strength to be made perfect in for a long time!
We continue to walk this journey step by step and one day at a time. Tomorrow will be a difficult day. But, I cannot allow my mind to go there. I will take each step as it comes, one foot after the other, into the Lord’s perfect will. As long as we submit to Jesus and trust in His plan, we will be carried by His amazing grace.
